Baby Born Ski Outfit

Baby Born Ski Outfit

I began knitting doll clothes when I was still a child, never dreaming that one day I would knit them for a baby, my own grandson!

My grandson Ryan was born almost three months premature and weighed only 3lb 8ozs. With out the equipment or experts to care for such a tiny baby here in my home in the Falkland Islands, he was put in an incubator and within two hours of his birth was in the air being flown by helicopter to the military airbase.

Once there he was transfered to a military jet and with a medical team was flown to the nearest hospital that could help him, far away in Montivideo, Uruguay. With him went a set of doll clothes I had knitted as that was all that would fit him. I made him many more doll outfits over the next few weeks as he fought to survive. Now he is a strong, healthy twelve year old and would be very embarrassed to learn he wore dolls clothes once!

I still love to knit doll clothes and was very excited when I discovered the beautiful patterns of Maulfrid Gausel. I have made my first one and hope to knit them all eventually for my two grandaughters.

A beautiful outfit!
by: Kathy

The story of your grandson's birth is very touching. I'll bet it's hard to imagine that your 12-year-old grandson was once tiny enough to wear doll clothes! Your granddaughters are very fortunate that you are now sharing your talents with them. That's a beautiful outfit!

I love this story! It was so fun knitting along with you on this pattern. Your grandchildren are blessed. I did look Fulkland Islands up on the map... wow! You are close to Antartica! I think it's so cool that Malfrid's pattern have inspired many of us across the globe.

Wonderful Picture- Inspiring Story
by: Penny

Your grandson has a very dramatic birth story. I'm glad to hear that everything turned out so well. I believe when he grows older he may come to appreciate the fact that you had clothing available for him even if it was originally intended for dolls. The love and skill you put into your knitting is obvious in your picture, so I'm certain that the things you make are valued by their owners.
