Knitting advice

Sizes
All clothes in this book are made to fit dolls approx.43 to 45 cm long. They have a waist measure of 30/35 cm. I add a few cm to the leg length for straight-leg dolls.
Needles and yarn
About all the models are knitted in lovely light wool yarn. I vary between alpaca and wool. There are also a few models that are knitted in cotton. You can use different yarn if it offers the same knitting firmness.
Knitting firmness
Approx. 30 knit stitches = 10 cm. Ndl sizes: 2.5 or 3.0mm It is recommended that you test the knitting firmness. That will help you determine if you need to regulate using thicker or thinner needles.
General advice
If you tend to knit tight, you may want to use a thicker needle when casting on. This will make your edges stretchier.
Stockinette stitch
Alternate a knit row with a purl row.
Seed stitch
1. needle: 1 single knit, 1 purl knit
2. needle: 1 purl knit over the single knit, 1 single knit over the purl knit.
Single knits and purls alternate horizontally and vertically.
Edges and ribs
These are often knitted back and front, even if some- times the knitting is continued all the way around. You choose which you prefer. When arms and legs are knitted back and front, they must be sewn together when assembled.
